Second Tuesday Lecture: A Champion For Nature: Dr. Robert Gore III & The Gore Nature Center
Dr. Robert H. Gore III had a plan-preserve untamed areas of southwest Florida’s wilderness before it was too late. A marine biologist and ecologist by trade, Dr. Gore worked for Collier County’s Natural Resources Management Department at a time when development in the eastern part of the county was in high gear. Slowly acquiring over 70 parcels in the far reaches of Golden Gate Estates, Dr. Gore created his own nature preserve - which also served as his home! Today, his mission of educating children and adults about our unique south Florida ecosystem continues with the Cypress Cove Landkeepers and their stewardship of his home-turned-nature center. Join us at the Collier Museum at Government Center to learn more about Dr. Gore’s story and the ecological history of this environment that he loved.
